Gibraltar was represented at the recent Taekwondo World Championships
held in Madrid from 12th - 17th April 2005, by Ernest Garcia; British
Taekwondo Control Board (B.T.C.B.) Gibraltar Chairman and accompanied by
Dean Chipolina and Keith Chichon. These championships were by far the
largest competition of its nature with 1237 competitors representing 125
countries exceeding last years numbers. During the course of the 5 days,
numerous sparring competitions took place demonstrating a high level of
expertise. In between the bouts of combat dynamic demonstrations of
technical ability and proficiency were displayed which thrilled the
large crowds of Taekwondo enthusiasts present.
During the week Ernest Garcia was able to make many contacts with
coaches and competitors which will benefit B.T.C.B. Gibraltar. A series
of talks were held concerning the upcoming Second Commonwealth Taekwondo
Championships and it was confirmed that Gibraltar had achieved member
and competitor status. Proudly the Executive President of the British
Taekwondo Control Board Master Park Soo Nam (9th Dan) was elected Vice
President of the World Taekwondo Federation.
